ProfessionalsSince Guide Dogs' Ophthalmic Research Grants Programme began in 1990 we have provided funding for some 100 projects totalling approximately £8 million. Guide Dogs has demonstrated its commitment to ophthalmic research by pledging a further £3.5 million for the period 2002-2006. Objectives of the Ophthalmic Research Programme- To promote high quality research into the causes, treatment, prevention and cure of sight-threatening diseases and conditions, especially those:
- that involve large numbers of people.
- for which improved therapeutic regimens are required.
- that are likely to lead to a clinical application.
- To encourage the dissemination of research results both within the specialist ophthalmic profession and the more general vision impairment sector.
- To encourage the continued pursuit of high quality research.
